The Animal Farm is an interesting novel written by George Orwell. The novel has deep political and social aspects that reflect upon humans’ social systems and political ideologies.
The novel starts when Mr.Jones, the owner of Manor Farm, goes to sleep drunk and Old Major, the pig, gives a speech about the animals’ situation at the farm and what they should do about it. Old Major encourages his fellow animals to rebel and at the same time explains to them the hardship and the unjust situation that they are living in with humans as oppressors. He talks about a dream that he had about a utopian society where animals no öonger are owned by humans and are living in a community ruled by them, the animals. Furthermore, he specifies for them to know who their ”comrades” are.
Old Major dies then and the animals at the farm prepare for three months to carry out the revolution. Pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, spread the ideology among other animals, and Moses, the raven, emerges as their opponent and against the impending rebellion. However, the revolution takes place and is carried out unexpectedly easily. The pigs reveal to their fellow animals that they can read by that time and they created committees and 7 principles for other animals to follow. Yet, the animals find it hard to comply with and understand those principles. After a while, all animals achieve a certain level of literacy. They expose the pigs to stealing the milk and apples and use them for their own. However, Squealer, the silver-tongued pig, convince the rest of the farm that pigs need milk and apple to keep their farm autonomous, otherwise, Mr.Jones, the owner, would return with his men to take over, and consequently, the animals would return to the old situation as slaves.
The first three chapters of The Animal Farm end with this event, while I believe that the farm will continue for a while under the condätrol of the animals and the leadership of the pigs before falling apart for undemocratic politics and uncontrolled leaders who take everything for themselves without leaving any space for other animals. I believe that other animals would carry out a new revolution against the pigs. However, I still believe that the pigs are smart enough to control other animals and manipulate them to keep order and satisfaction in the prevailing social system that the pigs created.
