Sports and exercising are often discussed as beneficial to one’s life. People always are advised to incorporate sports and exercises into their daily routine and embrace them as a part of their lifestyle. There are a great number of scientific studies that emphasize the importance of sports and exercising as beneficial factors to health. However, there are darker sides of sports that are not discussed as comprehensively as the pros of them. That is sports are not merely positive but there are pros and cons. This is interesting because sports, exactly like other matters, have their pros and their cons. It is rather interesting to understand and explore both the cons and the pros of exercising.

Mainly, sport and exercising are even considered beneficial beyond the health aspects that they return. That is, they are often discussed concerning terms such as personality, confidence, and a way of life. Billie Jean King said once:

“Sports teach you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose – it teaches you about life”

This statement is about how sports can teach people how to live and how to obey the rules while still aiming to win. That is. Sports are not only about winning and losing, even though it is the main goal of it, but sports are a way of life that teach us how to live and obey the rules. Furthermore, sport gives us the confidence and personality that we need to face all obstacles that can meet us and overcome them.

On the other hand, several negative aspects are connected to the sport. Sport can become abusive, mainly, for those who always aim to win every game they enter. After all, sports are created to amuse and to show skills that players have. That is, every game is about winning or losing it but the main goal, after all, is to amuse the public and get amused by doing sports. Otherwise, taking the matter too seriously would result in negative effects both for players and for those who are watching sports. Dean Smith said it once and illustrated how we should be thinking about sports.

“If you make every game a life-and-death thing, you’re going to have problems. You’ll be dead a lot.”

This quote from Dean Smith is just right about how we should think about sports. Not every game we enter is a life-and-death matter because every person loses a lot in their life and it is rather impossible to keep winning all the time. That is, winning all the time and every game is an unachievable matter because even the best will lose sometimes. Thinking about sports in this way would result in problems, mainly for us. Therefore, people should never think about sports like winning or losing because, after all, sports are to amuse and to exercise.

Sport and exercising are generally positive things that one can do in their life but we should be cautious about these positive effects because we should never forget the main goal which is about exercising and amusement. Of course, people should always aim to win but when they lose, they still should consider it as normal as winning.
